Coaching FAQ's

Question: How does your program work?
Answer:   I use fundamental training/coaching principles to increase your ability to perform by increasing your mental and physical skill sets.  We do this by measuring your current level of skill, setting key goals, and them following training program design concepts to build a program that will ensure your success.  This program will train skills across the board including mental, physical, visual, and tactical (sport based) skills.  After you begin training, we will use metric based analysis to ensure that you are improving as needed, and adjust the program based on those results.  Come game day, you WILL succeed!

Question: What is the difference in coaching and taking a class?
Answer:  Coaching that Shooting-Performance offers is completely different than taking a class.  The coaching is a year long program that is much more personal than a traditional class where the instructor just has a vested interest during the class.  I will take you through a year of development that will push you to become the best you can be.

Question:  What will coaching do for me that a class won't.
Answer:  Good classes are great, and I highly recommend them, (click here if you want just a class) but there is no substitute for good coaching.  Imagine any of the sports professionals out there, and name one that doesn't have a professional coach in their corner.  You will have a hard time naming one!  All other sports have coaches that ensure that athletes push themselves to their ability.  As your coach, I will ensure that you are spending your precious time and money following the right path.  As a team, we will adjust your training and match management as we go and you progress.  Coaching will take you to your highest level!

Question: Do I have to be local to Tulsa to get effective coaching?
Answer:  NO!  There are many successful coach/athlete relationships that occur when those two live in different towns.  Obviously, living in Tulsa will help me spend more time with you, but this is not that important to the program and your development.  We will spend a 2 or 4 day session together to introduce or correct your technique, but after that we will interact on the phone, via email, and as of recently I have been having great success monitoring athlete progress from video taken by the athlete.  We will also spend time together at matches through the year when possible.  The advances in technology these days will allow me to coach you just as effectively as if you were right here!

Question:  How will you (the coach) know if I am doing things right?
Answer:  We will interact frequently, both on the phone and via email.  If you are local to Tulsa, we will probably spend time together at matches.  If you are remote, I will encourage you to video everything you do and post them in areas we can share and comment on what I see.  You will also be sending detailed training logs and match reports to me weekly, which I will use to track all of the metrics of your progress.

Question:  Why do I have to fill out an application to get coaching?
Answer:  I am limited in the amount of time I have to spend with athletes.  I have only a limited number of athlete spots per year that I will coach, so each of them will receive quality coaching.  I also have some key things I look for in the application process, that tell me if an athlete is a serious prospect or not.  I do not like laziness or lack of desire to excel, and will not work with athletes who are not motivated.

Question:  Is coaching for groups or just one person?
Answer:  The initial technique assessment may be shared by one or more athletes, but in general I work with an athlete one on one. If a group of athletes entered the program from a location other than Tulsa, then they may benefit from traveling to their session together.  After that, it is one on one for your individual coaching.

Question:  How often can I contact the coach for advice?
Answer:  This will depend on what package you choose.  I used to only offer the FULL program, which was unlimited contact as long as the athlete contacted me during the hours in the agreement.  Now I offer FULL and PARTIAL programs.  The PARTIAL program only allows monthly contact (once), and the FULL program is unlimited.  For FULL program athletes, I have select hours we normally talk, and even though this is part of the agreement, I make myself as available as possible to the athletes in the program, because their development is my top priority.  Most athletes spend time each week talking to me, as well as email communication as often as they like.
